What is Corten Steel Tube?

Short Answer

Corten steel is a type of steel that forms a protective rust layer on its surface. This layer shields the steel underneath, making it a durable, low-maintenance choice for outdoor installations.

How it Works

When Corten steel is exposed to weather, a tight rust layer – a patina – forms on the surface. Unlike regular rust that flakes off and keeps spreading, Corten’s rust bonds to the steel and protects it.  Once the patina forms, the steel keeps its strength for decades with little maintenance.

Why does this matter?

The patina makes Corten a great choice for outdoor structures, like pedestrian bridges, architectural features, sculptures, and signage. The rust-colored patina blends well with natural surroundings.
