Can Corten steel be welded?

Short Answer

Yes. Corten welds like any other steel. Just use the right filler wire if you want the weld to weather and match.

The Basics

Corten welds just like regular carbon steel – MIG, TIG, or stick. Same equipment, same techniques.

The difference is in the filler metal. Standard filler won’t weather the same way, so the weld may look different over time.

Filler Wire

For welds that need to match the weathered look, use a low-alloy filler designed for weathering steel. Lincoln Electric makes filler wire specifically for this – ask your welding supplier.

If your weld will be hidden, standard filler is fine.
